About the Founder & Educator

Dr. Sandi H. Atkins is an educator with a passion for teaching. She taught 19+ years in the Washington, DC Public and Charter schools after receiving her B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations from Georgia State University, an M.A.T. in Elementary Education from American University, and a Honorary Doctorate in Worshipping Arts from Abundant Life Bible College and Theological Seminary. Dr. Atkins taught Pre-K4 through 12th grades, providing classroom instruction in Elementary Education, Special Education, After School Reading Enrichment programs, Reading Intervention, Computer Technology, ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Speech Communication. Dr. Atkins desires to provide educational support services to special education students and students identified as at-risk students struggling with literacy and math skills who may have fallen behind academically during the pre- and post-pandemic.

About the Academy

Angel Eyes Literacy Academy was created post-pandemic to provide additional academic support in Literacy and Math skills for first through sixth-grade students with IEPs and academic remediation. These students will receive academic support in reading, writing, and math to accommodate their educational learning goals. Instruction is conducted in small groups with a ratio of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 settings, which allows all students to receive dedicated and individualized instruction.

Many classroom settings and sizes are not conducive to quality teacher instruction and learning for students who are struggling academically. The Academy offers a quiet and relaxed environment in which we ensure quality learning can happen outside the classroom setting. Learning at the Literacy Academy allows students to focus and develop academic skills to improve areas in which they have deficits. Students also receive an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) to support specific academic needs.

Our Mission

The mission of Angel Eyes Literacy Academy is to grow students to grade-level performance in

reading, writing, and math while preventing academic regression as independent learners.

Programs

Literacy Support Program (LSP)

LSP provides fundamental reading and writing support to elementary and middle school students. Our research-

based curriculum supports students’ reading, comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills. Students

receive a pre-assessment to determine their base Lexile reading level, followed by interim assessments to track

academic and reading growth. The interim assessments are given after each module to ensure students master the

skills taught.

Math Support Program (MSP)

The Math Support Program provides intervention in elementary through middle school math. Students who lack basic math skills to succeed in General Mathematics, Algebra 1, and Geometry will follow a research-based intervention math program that is tailored to each student’s needs based on pre-assessment results. More interim assessments are also given in this subject area to identify students’ growth and deficits, in order to reteach the skill(s) before moving forward in their ILP.

testimonials

“I applaud and thank Dr. Atkins for the amazing, outstanding techniques and strategies she used to help my granddaughter Kaley. Kaley was performing two grades below grade level and had several academic challenges. She lost all her confidence and wanted to give up on learning. Dr. Atkins took her time and educated Kaley academically, socially, and emotionally. Kaley is now an above-average student grade-wise, she is close to performing on grade level and her standardized testing scores have improved drastically. Her confidence is through the roof.

Dr. Atkins provided Kaley with strategies to use inside and outside the classroom. Her knowledge of reaching students and helping them achieve their academic and social potential is

amazing! Dr. Atkins’ education program is a great investment for your struggling scholar. I know because I am an educator and recognized her teaching method. Kaley and our family adore and thank God for putting her in Kaley's pathway. We worked together and she reached out to her teachers and was in a conference with me for Kaley. Dedication and commitment toward Kaley’s success is amazing. Both of their hard work shows on Kaley's education journey.

Thank you, Dr. Atkins. You are the best! To God be all the Glory!”

Educationally Yours,

Ms. Bradford
